It started for everyone with the introduction of ChatGPT, this new wave of LLMs
and other AI models. The generation of text, incrementally even better
generation of text with other capabilities allows writing software big and
small, allowing developers to move faster and everyday people to write small
programs.

The past software development cycles have show us that with every introduction
of new technologies that make software development easier, more software is
written. We had the introduction of textual assembler, Basic, programming
languages, easier ways to edit code and open source.

The introduction of AI coding agents made code cheaper—a lot cheaper. This
means competing with basic features and feature count is not actually that
productive. Large software projects have to survive for a long time and must
compete on quality.

Fast, well working software that captures the user's intent correctly is a joy
to witness. We can take the same amount of time to implement features, but use
our newly acquired time to improve quality and longevity, while maybe being a
bit faster still. And those items in your backlog? Maybe you can fix them now.

Our users can also use AI. Auto translation, more intelligent automations,
speech, image recognition and even writing one-off extensions inside of
software products. Let them experience what we are experiencing right now.

We as software developers have to focus on delivering robust and joyful
software that has good guardrails and allows our users to focus on the hard and
human stuff.
